Red Sox Notebook: Final Pre-Spring Moves Made
1B Kevin Youkilis avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3 million contract. He had sought $3.7 million in arbitration after making $424,500 last year. Youkilis was the Red Sox’s last possible arbitration case. Pitchers Javier Lopez and Kyle Snyder settled shortly after filing for arbitration last month.

Outfielder Brad Hawpe and Rockies agree at $3,925,000, avoiding arbitration (AP)
Outfielder Brad Hawpe and the Colorado Rockies agreed Thursday to a one-year contract worth $3,925,000, a deal that avoided a salary arbitration hearing. Eligible for arbitration for the first time, Hawpe had asked for a raise from $403,000 to $4.35 million after he helped the Rockies advance to the World Series for the first time.
