Adrian Gonzalez doubled home the go-ahead run in the eighth, and the San Diego Padres snapped a four-game skid with a 5-3 win over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night. The Padres lost All-Star right-hander Chris Young to a strained abdominal muscle after two innings, and their bullpen blew another late lead.

No. 9 hitter Travis Metcalf was 4-for-4, his last hit an RBI double in the eighth inning, and Eric Gagne worked the ninth for his second save of the […]

Helton’s 2 errors from July 16 erased (AP)

Two wrongs were made right Tuesday when major league baseball erased two errors charged to Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton in a game at Pittsburgh on July 16. The league reversed the calls made by official scorer Tony Krizmanich that had infuriated the slick-fielding Helton, who has committed just two other errors this season, […]

Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood walked a batter and didn’t record a strikeout during a brief one-inning relief appearance in a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday. The injury-plagued Wood is recovering from shoulder tendinitis. He threw 12 pitches — 11 fastballs and a breaking ball — during his fifth-inning appearance for the Class-A Peoria Chiefs.
