The Washington Nationals purchased the contracts of first baseman Dmitri Young and left-handed reliever Ray King from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday, adding them to the 40-man roster. Both came to spring training on non-guaranteed minor league deals. Young will make $500,000 this season, and King $850,000.

    Nationals 5, Mets 3 (AP)

Oliver Perez labored through 5 2-3 innings, looking little like the guy who earned a spot in the New York Mets’ rotation. Jerome Williams had his own problems with control, though he, too, knows he’s going to be pitching for the Washington Nationals this season. Both starters struggled at times Tuesday night, when the Nationals […]

Pujols gets first homer; Padres score 24 in win over Rangers (AP)

Albert Pujols got the most of his first home run of the spring and Barry Bonds put in one last Cactus League game before heading north for the start of the regular season. And that was nothing compared to the show put on by Greg Maddux and the San Diego Padres. Maddux had his […]

    Phillies 6, Reds 2 (AP)

This is the way the Philadelphia Phillies hope their pitchers perform when the games count. Jamie Moyer pitched seven strong innings, Geoff Geary worked a perfect eighth and Tom Gordon finished with a scoreless ninth in a 6-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night. Pat Burrell and Rod Barajas hit solo homers for […]

Bonds leaves desert to return to California (AP)

Barry Bonds packed up his locker, took two at-bats in his final Cactus League game and left the desert to return to California. Bonds went 1-for-2 as the designated hitter in Tuesday’s 9-8 win over the Seattle Mariners, his final work day in Arizona. A handful of Giants veterans, including new ace Barry Zito, also […]

Angels 12, White Sox 2 (AP)

Dustin Moseley, hoping to earn one of two vacant spots in the Los Angeles Angels’ rotation, struck out six in six innings Tuesday during a 12-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Moseley allowed two runs and right hits — he has given up five runs in 19 2-3 innings during spring training. “He gives […]
