Mets 6, Dodgers 2 (AP)
The Mets’ Oliver Perez and the Dodgers’ Brad Penny are having quite different exhibition seasons. Perez tossed six strong innings, giving up one unearned run, while Penny was scratched from the lineup because of irritation in his right shoulder, and New York defeated Los Angeles 6-2 on Wednesday night.

Hampton throws off mound for first time since injury (AP)
Atlanta Braves left-hander Mike Hampton threw off a mound Wednesday for the first time since he strained his left oblique during batting practice two weeks ago. Even before he strained the muscle in his left side, Hampton was being closely monitored while making his return from Tommy John surgery in 2006.

Garcia leaves game with stiffness in right biceps (AP)
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Freddy Garcia left Wednesday night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays after the first inning because of stiffness in his right biceps. Garcia, picked up in an offseason trade with the Chicago White Sox, was to be examined by the Phillies medical staff on Thursday, team spokesman Larry Shenk said.
