Padres plan Gwynn statue for Petco Park (AP)

Brewers’ 2005 top draft pick Ryan Braun hit a grand slam and a three-run homer in Milwaukee’s 14-8 win over the Oakland Athletics in both teams’ exhibition opener Thursday. Mets 4, Cardinals 3 (AP)
Starter Tom Glavine tossed two hitless innings to lead the New York Mets to a 4-3 win over the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday. Glavine was nearly perfect except for hitting the Cardinals Scott Rolen on an 0-2 pitch to start the second inning. “I felt good, surprisingly,” Glavine said.
