Dice-K arrives for first U.S. spring training
Dice-K arrived at spring training.
And so did crowds of reporters, photographers and television crews who flocked to Florida to chronicle the $103 million Japanese ace’s landing. That didn’t count the handful of puzzled passers-by who wondered what all the fuss was about Monday at Tampa International Airport.

Patterson, Gregg go to arbitration (AP)
Washington pitcher John Patterson and Florida reliever Kevin Gregg argued their salary cases in front of arbitration panels Monday. Patterson, eligible for arbitration for the first time, asked arbitrators Elliott Shriftman, Dan Brent and Stephen Goldberg for a raise from $450,000 to $1.85 million. The Nationals offered $850,000, less than half.
