Jeff Weaver and the Seattle Mariners have just about finalized a one-year contract worth $8,325,000 — the same salary he had last year. Nolan Ryan hospitalized, team says he’s in good condition (AP)
Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan was hospitalized Friday and said to be in good condition with an undisclosed ailment. The 59-year-old strikeout king checked into Round Rock Medical Center for treatment of “recurring symptoms of a pre-existing medical condition,” according to the Round Rock Express, a minor league team Ryan owns.

Garcia agrees to minor league contract with Phillies (AP)
Outfielder Karim Garcia agreed to a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies and was invited Friday to spring training. The 31-year-old played with Orix of Japan’s Pacific League the last two seasons. He last played in the majors in 2004, splitting the season between the New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles.
