Pirates’ Gerut accepts pay cut (AP)
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Jody Gerut, out for most of two seasons with knee problems, accepted a $25,000 pay cut and agreed Thursday to an $850,000, one-year deal. Gerut bypassed arbitration in accepting a cut from his 2006 salary of $875,000. He had asked for $925,000 and the Pirates had offered $800,000.

Mariners bring back Rhodes (AP)
The Seattle Mariners are giving Arthur Rhodes another chance to help their bullpen, agreeing Thursday to a minor league contract with the 36-year-old reliever. Rhodes had been an effective left-hander out of the bullpen for most of his career, but struggled last year with Philadelphia, going 0-5 with a 5.32 ERA in 55 games.

Drew, Red Sox reach agreement; Rhodes to Mariners; Sele to Mets (AP)
Seven weeks after agreeing to terms, outfielder J.D. Drew and the Boston Red Sox resolved their differences on his $70 million, five-year contract and were set to announce the deal Friday.
