    A’s settle with Saarloos at $1.2 million (AP)

    Kirk Saarloos and the Oakland Athletics agreed Friday to a one-year contract guaranteeing the right-hander $1.2 million and avoided arbitration. Saarloos went 7-7 with a 4.75 ERA in 16 starts and 19 relief appearances last season. The club’s No. 5 starter in 2005, he could rejoin the rotation this season under new manager Bob Geren.

    Arizona claims OF Romero off waivers from Twins (AP)

    The Arizona Diamondbacks claimed Alex Romero off waivers from the Minnesota Twins on Friday. The 23-year-old outfielder split time last season between Triple-A Rochester and Double-A New Britain. He hit .263 with 19 doubles, four triples, five homers andd 42 RBIs in 119 games overall for the two minor league clubs.

    Infielder Tony Graffanino and the Milwaukee Brewers agreed Friday to a $3.25 million, one-year contract, avoiding a salary arbitration hearing. The 34-year-old hit .280 last season with two homers and 28 RBIs in 236 at-bats, then became a free agent. He was offered salary arbitration by the Brewers on Dec.

    Injured Morales, McPherson to see doctors (AP)

    Los Angeles Angels infielders Kendry Morales and Dallas McPherson will visit doctors Monday to have injuries examined. Morales hurt his right knee on Jan. 9 while playing in the Dominican Winter League playoffs. He will be examined at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles.
