Brewers talking to Counsell about potential return (AP)
The Brewers are in discussions with utility infielder Craig Counsell about a potential return to Milwaukee, general manager Doug Melvin said Tuesday night. “Nothing’s official yet,” Melvin said. “We’re just continuing to negotiate.” Counsell, who attended high school in Whitefish Bay, played for the Brewers in 2004.

Orioles reach preliminary agreements with Bradford and Williamson, close in on Millar, Bako (AP)
Adding another pair of relievers, the Baltimore Orioles reached preliminary agreements with Chad Bradford and Scott Williamson on Tuesday and also neared a deal to re-sign first baseman Kevin Millar and add backup catcher Paul Bako. Bradford will get a $10.5 million, three-year contract and Williamson will get $900,000 for one year.

Yankees win rights to Igawa for about $26 million (AP)
The New York Yankees won the bidding for Japanese pitcher Kei Igawa when the Hanshin Tigers accepted their offer of just more than $26 million on Tuesday. Igawa, a 27-year-old left-hander, could compete for a spot in New York’s rotation next season behind Chien-Ming Wang, Mike Mussina and Randy Johnson.

Matsuzaka bid will stand
